Belvedere Museum Vienna - The World's Largest Gustav Klimt Collection
The former summer residence of Prince Eugen of Savoy (1663–1736) with its magnificent garden is one of the most international baroque ensembles and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. Today, the Belvedere, as one of the most successful museums in Austria, not only houses the world's largest Gustav Klimt painting collection, but also the most important collection of Austrian art from the Middle Ages to the presence in an international context.
The Winter Palace, once built for the Prince Eugen of Savoy as a magnificent residential and representation palace, acquired in the 18th century by Empress Maria Theresia, sometimes used for the court chamber and then as Ministry of Finance, has been again available as a place for art and culture for the public.
The 21er house sees itself as a place of artistic production, reception and reflection. The focus of the exhibition activity characterized by interdisciplinary and social -analytical approaches is the Austrian art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
